SPONSORSHIP OF THE 2007-2008 ICE HOCKEY SEASON
The Dubai Sandstorms Ice Hockey Club (the “Club”) is a non-profit organisation that promotes ice hockey in Dubai, as a game played primarily for enjoyment, while also fostering skill development, fair play and team work. The goals of the Club are:
To develop the players of the United Arab Emirates
To provide different types of programs for the varying age and skill levels
Provide a positive training experience that focuses on hockey and life skills
To promote ice hockey within the United Arab Emirates
The Dubai Sandstorms Ice Hockey Club has been teaching ice hockey skills to Dubai youth since the early 1990s. The Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of youth ice hockey skills in a friendly environment that nurtures a competitive spirit and good sportsmanship. While the accent is on fun, every effort is made to encourage positive attitudes, personal commitment and respect - for teammates and opponents. Its entire operations are run entirely by volunteers and parents who are committed to enabling it to achieve its goals.
Since its inception, the group has expanded significantly, now attracting over 175 youngsters annually, both girls and boys aged 5 to 18 who compete in five divisions – Novice, Atom, Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget. In the 2006-2007 season, players represented more than 20 nationalities including European, North American, Australian, Asian and African expatriates. The ice rink at Al Nasr Leisureland is 'home ice' for the Sandstorms and weekly practices as well as tournaments hosted by the Club are held at Al Nasr.
The Club has a dedicated core of hockey coaches who coordinate two weekly one-hour practice sessions for players in all four divisions from September through to April. The Club hosts two annual tournaments attracting teams from Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, Oman and Saudi Arabia and organizes an annual ice hockey training camp led by hockey professionals from Canada. In addition to competing with teams in he region the Club has participated in tournaments in Switzerland and the Netherlands and will be sending players to the Netherlands again this year to participate in a European tournament to be held in March.
The Club charges each player an annual fee of DH 1200, which on its own does not cover the cost of implementing the Club's current program. Fortunately the Club has and continues to receive the generous financial support of sponsors, however as the Club continues to grow and expand the opportunities available to our players there is an ongoing need for financial support beyond that currently available. Consequently, the Club is seeking assistance and ask that you consider.
